QUALIFICATIONS

- Must Pass Physical Capabilities Test
- Life Guard Certification
- High School diploma or equivalent
- One of the following:
60 College Credit hours; or
Associates Degree or Higher; or
Missouri Para Pro Assessment Passing Score (before 9/23/13) per DESE 6/22; or
Missouri Para Pro Assessment Passing Score (after 9/23/13) per DESE 6/22; or
Completed Missouri’s 20 Hour online substitute training program

JOB SUMMARY
The Instructional Assistant assists in reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of students in a pool setting. Also assists in the preparation of instructional materials and implementation of lesson plans.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The duties of the Instructional Assistant will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assist instructional personnel with the development and presentation of instructional exercises.
- Work with individual or small groups of students, reinforcing instruction as directed; monitors and oversees students, confers with the teacher concerning lesson plans and materials to meet student needs; assists with the implementation of lesson plans.
- Observe and control behavior of students in the swim center according to approved procedures.
- Models positive behavior for students (i.e. inter-personal communication, processes, social interactions, etc.).
- Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, dress and appropriate professional manner for the work setting.
- Demonstrate effective human relations and communication skills.
- Adhere to good safety practices.
- Ability to understand and adhere to all District rules, regulations and policies.
- All other duties as required or assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
- swim, stand, walk, sit and talk/hear;
- occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl;
- occasionally push, pull or lift up to 50 lbs; and
- be able to see, including close, distance and depth perception.
