JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of the Bus Aide is to provide support within the Transportation department area with specific responsibilities for assisting students during transport to and from school and/or special activities; and ensuring the safety and sanitation of assigned vehicle.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The duties of the School Bus Driver will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assists bus driver (i.e. sweeping, mopping washing windows, disposing of trash, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a clean, safe environment for student passengers.
- Assists students and other passengers (i.e. evacuation plan for each student, etc.) for the purpose of providing safe loading and unloading from buses during normal transport and emergency situations.
- Communicates regularly with teachers and paraprofessionals for the purpose of meeting student(s) needs and/or imparting information about student conduct.
- Instructs students for the purpose of enforcing rules/regulations and maintaining student safety and well-being.
- Interacts with teachers and parents (i.e. use of sign language, restraining methods, etc.) for the purpose of effectively communicating with students and dealing with behavioral issues that impact safe transportation.
- Reports observations and/or incidents (i.e. discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate personnel.
- Monitors students until released to teacher, instructional assistant, parent, etc. for the purpose of ensuring the safety and well-being of students.
- Secures students and/or their equipment (i.e. restraints, wheel chair tie downs, seat belts, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safety and well-being of students.
- Attends safety meetings, in-service trainings as required.
- Demonstrates professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, dress and problem-solving.
- Ability to deal with special needs students in a courteous, but firm manner.
- Ability to deal with adults in a responsible, courteous manner.
- Ability to make quick and responsible decision.
- Enforce the student discipline code.
- Obeys all District transportation policies and disciplinary standards.
- Models positive behavior for students (i.e. inter-personal communication, processes, social interactions, etc.) for the purpose of providing educational and life skills training.
- Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, dress and appropriate professional manner for the work setting.
- Demonstrate effective human relations and communication skills.
- Adhere to good safety practices.
- Ability to understand and adhere to all District rules, regulations and policies.
- All other duties as required or assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
- Repetitive motions with shoulder to open/close a bus door
- Repeated movements to and from the floor
- Repeated turning/twisting motions with all joints and waist
- Ability to sit up for up to six hours
- Repeated push/pull with fingers, hands, wrists, shoulders, elbows and back
- Ability to turn head to both sides with full range of motion
- Be able to see, including close, distance and depth perception
- Ability to stand, walk, sit and talk/hear
- Ability to reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
- Ability to push, pull or lift up to 50 lbs

WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in temperatures above 100 and below 32 and occasionally will walk on slippery surfaces. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with sever time constraints and interact with public and other workers. The employee has direct responsibility for the safety and well-being of others. The noise level in this work environment is frequently loud to where you have to raise your voice to be heard.
