QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
- Pass Physical Capabilities Test
- Pass Background check
- HVAC experience preferred or willing to be trained
- Ability to perform general maintenance work inside and outside the physical plant such as ceiling, roof, electrical, plumbing, concrete, masonry, glazing, insulation, tile, pump and fan repairs.
- Ability to operate equipment used in grounds maintenance (i.e. tractors, weed whips, mowers, hand and power tools, etc.)
- Ability to adhere to safety practices
JOB SUMMARY
This is a full-time position working throughout the district, reporting to the Director of Maintenance. This position is to help maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use may be made at all times.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The duties of the Groundskeeper will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Maintain school grounds in attractive, clean and safe condition.
- Assist in the application of pesticides for controlling insects and weeds in accordance with established procedures.
- Clean landscaped areas and related items (i.e. storm drains, fields, litter, etc.) for the purpose of preventing flooding and removing hazards.
- Maintain playground equipment to ensure equipment is in safe operating condition in compliance with established standards.
- Maintain grounds keeping equipment (i.e. cleaning after use, sharpening of blades, fuel, check oil, keep tires inflated properly, etc.).
- Plant a variety of landscaping materials (i.e. lawns, shrubbery, flowers, etc.); keeping the grounds attractive and protecting against erosion.
- Prepare grounds and athletic fields (i.e. fertilizes soil, courtyards, flower beds, chalk fields, paint stripping, etc.) to provide adequate, attractive and safe areas for assemblies, recreational activities and/or athletic events.
- Remove snow and ice in the winter.
- Request materials, supplies, equipment, and/or support personnel in order to complete assignments in a timely manner.
- Respond to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (i.e. facility damage, vandalism, alarms, etc.), taking appropriate action or notifying appropriate personnel for resolution.
- Transport a variety of tools, equipment, supplies, etc. for availability at required job site.
- Install, maintain and repair heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
- Complete work orders as assigned.
- Assist in maintenance of District facilities as needed.
- Ensure all safety procedures are followed.
- Models positive behavior for students (i.e. inter-personal communication, processes, social interactions, etc.) for the purpose of providing educational and life skills training.
- Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, dress and appropriate professional manner for the work setting.
- Demonstrate effective human relations and communication skills.
- Adhere to good safety practices.
- Ability to understand and adhere to all District rules, regulations and policies.
- All other duties as required or assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
- stand, walk, sit and talk/hear;
- occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl;
- climb ladders;
- ability to work in confined spaces for lengthy periods of time;
- occasionally push, pull or lift up to 50 lbs; and
- be able to see, including close, distance and depth perception.
- Work in summer heat, on roofs, to repair HVAC units.
