Pay Schedule:  Instructional Asst.

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  1. Must Pass Fingerprint Check
  2. Must Pass Physical Capabilities Test
  3. High School diploma or equivalent
  4. One of the following:

        60 College Credit hours; or

        Associates Degree or Higher; or

        Missouri Para Pro Assessment Passing Score (before 9/23/13) per DESE 6/22; or

        Missouri Para Pro Assessment Passing Score (after 9/23/13) per DESE 6/22; or

        Completed Missouri’s 20 Hour online substitute training program

 

     5. Knowledge of basic subjects taught in schools, including math, grammar, spelling, language and reading

     6. Basic instructional methods and techniques

     7. Correct usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary

     8. Oral and written communication skills

     9. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy

     10.Participate in training activities as required by the District

 

JOB SUMMARY

The Instructional Assistant assists in reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of students in a classroom setting.  Also assists in the preparation of instructional materials and implementation of lesson plans.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The duties of the Instructional Assistant will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist instructional personnel with the development and presentation of learning materials and instructional exercises.
  • Work with individual or small groups of students, reinforcing instruction as directed; monitors and oversees student drills, practices and assignments in various subjects; confers with the teacher concerning lesson plans and materials to meet student needs; assists with the implementation of lesson plans.
  • Maintain documentation and records for student files daily.
  • Assist in preparation of materials for students.
  • Observe and control behavior of students in the classroom, lunch areas, playground or other learning environments according to approved procedures; monitors students during outdoor activities as directed; reports progress regarding student performance and behavior.
  • Administer and score various tests and assessments as directed; prepares reports and documentation as required.
  • Models positive behavior for students (i.e. inter-personal communication, processes, social interactions, etc.) for the purpose of providing educational and life skills training.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, dress and appropriate professional manner for the work setting.
  • Demonstrate effective human relations and communication skills.
  • Adhere to good safety practices.
  • Ability to understand and adhere to all District rules, regulations and policies.
  • All other duties as required or assigned.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:

  • stand, walk, sit and talk/hear;
  • occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl;
  • occasionally push, pull or lift up to 50 lbs; and
  • be able to see, including close, distance and depth perception.
