QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High School diploma or equivalent
  2. Pass Background check
  3. Pass Physical Capabilities Test
  4. Ability to perform multiple tasks to meet changing job descriptions
  5. Ability to operate equipment used in general maintenance of the building
  6. Ability to adhere to safety practices

 

JOB SUMMARY

The Custodian will provide custodial services at assigned facility; ensuring an attractive, sanitary and safe environment for students, staff and visitors; performing a variety of special cleaning operations; and assisting in preparing facilities for classroom activities and campus events.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The duties of the Custodian will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist with site snow removal for the purpose of ensuring access and safety.
  • Attend meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. (i.e. hazardous materials training, asbestos training, fire extinguisher training, etc.) in order to gather information required to perform job functions.
  • Clean assigned facilities and/or grounds (i.e. classrooms, offices, gym, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, pools, grounds, etc.) in order to maintain a sanitary, safe and attractive environment.
  • Deliver a variety of items (i.e. supplies, mail, packages, furniture, etc.) to the appropriate parties within the facility.
  • Move furniture and equipment as needed with the facility.
  • Participate in a variety of training and drills with students and staff (i.e. fire, intruder, earthquake, health and safety, etc.) to ensure emergency procedures are in order, alarm systems are operational and/or established procedures are effective.
  • Keep building and premises, including sidewalks, driveway, playgrounds and adjacent grounds neat and clean at all times.
  • Assume responsibility for opening/closing of the facility as is required for the specific position.
  • Comply with the law and establishes procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.
  • Inform students and other site personnel to provide information and direction regarding activities, safety issues and/or proper maintenance of facilities and equipment.
  • Monitor students and staff in and around work areas (i.e. halls, multipurpose rooms, lunch room, restrooms, grounds, etc.) to prevent injuries and ensuring site safety, reporting issues to appropriate personnel.
  • Perform summer maintenance (i.e. shampoo carpet, move furniture, etc.) to complete and/or facilitate summer construction.
  • Prepare site for daily operations (i.e. opening gates, raising flags, sweeping walkways, etc.) to ensure facilities are operational and hazard free.
  • Replenish classroom and rest room supplies (i.e. paper towels, soap, etc.) to ensure adequate quantities for daily use.
  • Respond to inquiries from staff, students, parents and/or visitors to provide information, taking appropriate action and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Respond to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (i.e. facility damage, vandalism, alarms, etc.); taking appropriate action or notifying appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Secure facilities and grounds (i.e. doors, gates, alarms, lights, etc.) for purpose of minimizing property damage, equipment loss and/or potential liability.
  • Support other site maintenance staff (i.e. grounds, trades, etc.) for purpose of completing site custodial activities.
  • Ensure all safety procedures are followed.
  • Models positive behavior for students (i.e. inter-personal communication, processes, social interactions, etc.) for the purpose of providing educational and life skills training.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, dress and appropriate professional manner for the work setting.
  • Demonstrate effective human relations and communication skills.
  • Adhere to good safety practices.
  • Ability to understand and adhere to all District rules, regulations and policies.
  • All other duties as required or assigned.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:

  • stand, walk, sit and talk/hear;
  • occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl;
  • climb ladders;
  • occasionally push, pull or lift up to 50 lbs; and
  • be able to see, including close, distance and depth perception.
